Parahaki and Riverside sit on the eastern side of the Hātea River, directly across from Whangārei's town centre and beneath Mt Parihaka, whose scenic reserve and summit lookout overlook the city. It's one of the closest residential areas to the CBD, with the Hātea Loop walkway and the Town Basin a short walk or ride away. Sections here are usually infill on established streets, and the land climbs quickly up the hill, so slope, retaining and geotechnical requirements are the first things to check — alongside flood mapping on the low-lying river flats in Riverside.
