Maunu is on the western side of Whangārei city, spread along State Highway 14 as it heads out towards Dargaville, and about 10 minutes from the CBD. The character is semi-rural: larger residential lots and lifestyle blocks on rolling land, with the bush of the Pukenui Forest along its northern edge and Kiwi North (the regional museum and heritage park) on the highway. Whangārei Hospital on Maunu Road is a short drive in towards town.
